The Honorary President of the Diaspora Chamber of Business, Lazim Destani met with the German Budenstag MP, Peter Beyer. They discussed and exchanged views on various topics related to the Western Balkans, as well as the Albanian Diaspora in Germany.
“I briefed MP Beyer, who is also a Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Bundestag, on the activities of the Albanian Diaspora Coordination Council (DCC) in general and on the activities related to the Albanian community in Germany in particular. In this context, we also talked about the issue of visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosova, about which the DCC three months ago sent an official letter to Chancellor Merkel, and on this topic Mr Beyer paid special attention to it,” said Mr Destani.
The current situation and the challenges caused by the pandemic were also part of their talks. It was their common finding that the difficulties and consequences caused by the pandemic in particular are being felt by the fragile economy of the Western Balkans and that these countries need to be supported.
“Given that Mr Beyer is also a Member of the German Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, we also discussed finding the best ways to absorb the funds that the EU has planned for our region. The economy of the Western Balkan countries needs recovery and sustainable development, while a developed economy would be a good basis for resolving many other issues that concern the population of this region. Our countries have been somewhat neglected in the past and now we Albanians expect more, more dignified action and support from the European Union”, continued Destani.
The meeting was closed by thanking Mr Beyer for the visit and in particular, appreciating his commitment and that of Germany in general for the support they are giving to the Western Balkans for economic recovery as well as for the integration of the region in the Euro-Atlantic structures.
