Deeply saddened by the earthquake that hit Albania on November 26, Lazim Destani visits the areas affected by this natural disaster. The earthquake left behind tens of people dead, hundreds injured and many houses collapsed. Thousands of people, shocked and without a roof over their heads, were sheltered in sport halls and camps set up on soccer fields. On the same day, Lazim Destani sends an emergency contingent in order to support residents of this area.
Accompanied by the Minister of State for Diaspora, Pandeli Majko, Lazim Destani visited the most affected zones and camps where homeless residents from Durrës, Thumanë and other some dwelling places were sheltered. Mr. Destani also visited the Emergency Headquarters in Durrës where together with its managing staf he talked on handling the situation and measures to be taken. In the camp set up in Thumanë, Destani saw the conditions and also visited the ambulance tent where many traumatized people were receiving medical treatment.
Lazim Destani also met with the staff of the injured reception center where he highly appreciated their commitment, encouraging them not to stop supporting those who in these difficult hours need so much of their help.
Later that same day, Lazim Destani was received in a meeting by the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj. The Mayor made an overview on the damages caused by the earthquake in Tirana. During the talk, Destani expressed his heartfelt sorrow to Mayor Veliaj, assuring him that the support of his family business to the city of Tirana won’t be lacking.
Through a post on the same day, Mr. Destani summed up his visit this way, “Today, during a visit around the earthquake affected areas, I shared the pain with people sheltered in the camps in Durrës and Thumanë, where I saw the damages and pains the earthquake left behind. With deep sorrow, I pray for the healing of the injured and the recovery of the situation as soon as possible. I express sincere condolences to the families of the victims caused by this tragic disaster.”
Upon completion of his visit in Albania, Minister of State for Diaspora, Pandeli Majko, thanked Mr. Destani for his supportive visit, as well as for the emergency contingent from Destani’s family business which came among the first aids from abroad.
